FASHION TRENDS; THE AFRICAN WOMEN AND THEIR HEAD TIE
In Africa unlike the western world, women inherited the tradition of wearing the head tie for so many purposes. In the past, it is a taboo for a woman to leave her head open in places like the traditional shrines, the village meeting grounds and the local mainline Christian assembly.
In many Africa villages, the trend is still on irrespective of the western culture that is gradually permeating the life of every African woman. However, village women still maintain the head tie trend when they gather for village meetings, at the market places and even at their homes.
In the village local Christian mainline churches, it is a taboo for women to keep their heads open without head ties. Mainline churches like the Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Celestial churches still mandate their women to put on the head ties. Oftentimes, during church services, women compete among themselves with the gigantic head ties they put on. These head ties match the wrapper products they tie at their waists. The head ties are so big that the next person behind such women is covered
However, the opposite is the case in the cities of Africa. In most cities of Africa, the western life has eaten down the marrows of many women for good. Head ties seem to be a thing for the bedroom as many women have their hairs well plaited or weaved with the latest trend of weave on. In the city churches especially the Pentecostal, women are allowed to allow their heads open without head tie.
In all, the fashion trend of head tie is fast changing in Africa. In the near future, most head ties which use to be the delight of village women will become things of the past.
